The prevalence of depression has been continuously increasing in various countries across the globe. In most cases, depression begins at the age of 20 years. However, most people are diagnosed with this condition at around 40years of age (Wang et al., 2017).According to Wang et al. (2017), the prevalence of women and men struggling with depression ranges between 20%-25% and 7%-12%, respectively. Study byMilanovic et al. (2015) show that depression is among the most prevalent mental disorders, affecting approximately 350 million individuals globally. Depression is diagnosed in one out of twenty individuals(Dawood et al., 2017).
Globally, depressionis one of the significant public health issues.It is the fourth largest contributor to the global disease burden. By 2030 it is expected that depression will become the second cause of disability globally (Dawood et al., 2017). This disease affects the cognitive and psychomotor functions and may decrease an individual’s level of productivity(Dawood et al., 2017). Depression has negative impacts on academic, employment, economic and social relationships (Dawood et al., 2017).
Most substance use disorders are associated with depression. Depression affects individual’s income level by shorting the number of years of gainful employment through disability retirement or termination (Trautmann et al., 2016). Other impacts of depression are feelings of emptiness and worthlessness, trouble with memory and thinking, increased rates of suicide, risk of heart attacks, clinginess, fatigue, and weight fluctuations (Wang et al., 2017). Therefore, determining the most effective therapeutic strategies for patients with mild depression is a crucial role for healthcare personnel. However, the project’s success in the selected setting will mainly depend on the facilitators, potential barriers, and its practicability.
Facilitators
