Assignment Requirements:

1) Locate a nutrition article available to consumers in a newspaper, magazine, newsletter or on the internet (no blogs or advertisements). The article cannot be a research article in a professional publication or an article written for nutrition professionals (i.e. Today’s Dietitian). (appropriate article = 3 points)

2) A copy of the article must be included with the completed assignment. (2 points)

3) Submit a 2 – 3 page typed, double spaced paper that addresses all of the following:

a) Identify the target audience of the article. How can you tell? (3 points)

b) What are the credentials of the author? Are they appropriate? Why or why not? (3 points)

c) What is the motive to write the article? (this could include: sell a product, inform audience of a new research finding, promote healthy behavior, prevent or treat a disease or another reason, etc.) (3 points)

d) Can you identify any of the red flags to quackery in the article? If yes, which ones? Be sure to provide examples. (3 points)
