PUAEMR009B Risk Management System Evaluation

In your current workplace or chosen organisation (try to ensure it is associated with emergency management), you are to familiarise yourself with the risk management system, and evaluate and monitor its processes and procedures for its implementation.

This evaluation should look at areas such as:

  • How the information and resources were provided to staff
  • The access for staff to these resources and information
  • How information, costs, and statistics about the system were collected
  • What insurances were arranged to cover risks that cannot be eliminated
  • The undertaking of audits
  • Advice about risk management provided to staff
  • Training in risk management
  • Addressing problems in risk management (projects and work groups)
  • Promotion of risk management
  • Contingency plans
  • Recovery processes
  • Analysis of recovery processes for minimising the likelihood of recurrence
  • How the system meets risk management strategies and performance measures
  • Recommendations for improvement to system

This evaluation should be between 2500-3000 words, and must be written in report style format. In the Findings section of the report you will identify the current processes and procedures for risk management in the workplace or organisation. The Analysis section will then cover what changes were made to improve the effectiveness of the risk management system.

Marking Criteria

  • Access a risk management system from an operating organisation, either your workplace or somewhere that you can access relevant staff and conduct an interview.
  • Address all the information listed in the dot points above.
  • Present the report neatly and without spelling or grammatical errors or spacing inconsistencies.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the risk management system.

PUAEMR009B Risk Management Analysis

Before any risk management plan can be properly designed and implemented in an organisation, a risk management analysis should first be presented to management to demonstrate the basis of the risk management project.

You can present the analysis on a Word document, in a report type format using headings.

Choose a recent disaster or emergency management event in Australia, or around the world, and conduct your risk analysis.  Obviously, the benefit of hindsight is great, and you would not have this going forward.  But, previous events should always inform future behaviours.

You must utilise the risk assessment process outlined in the National Emergency Risk Assessment Guidelines, as provided in Topic 7.

The basis of the analysis should be the identified risks that require an improved or new risk management plan.

You may use the risk assessment matrix if you deem it relevant:

Some difficulties may arise in identifying budget issues, but it is important that you form the basic understanding of the costs of risk management plans.

Minimum word count: 500 words

Marking criteria:

  • Ensure that the risk analysis follows the criteria set out in the NERAG
  • Ensure that all areas are covered within the best of your ability
  • Access necessary information from any relevant organisation but ensure that no confidentiality requirements are breached
  • Hypothetical scenarios are acceptable
  • The submission must be neatly presented and free of spelling and grammatical errors

PUAEMR009B ERM Implementation Presentation

For this assessment task you are now required to create a presentation for delivery to employers and staff in your organisation to advise them of the implementation of the emergency risk management plan.

You should present the following components of the ERM:

  • The identified risks
  • The consequences of the risks
  • The proposed actions
  • The staff responsible for implementation
  • The improvements to the workplace as a result
  • Any other significant elements

You should present the information using Microsoft Power Point or equivalent.

The presentation should contain the following:

  • At least 10 slides
  • Colour
  • Pictures
  • Suitable information for a slide show (ie: not too much information on each slide)

Remember, delivering an ERM plan to employees can sometimes be confronting so ensure that your presentation is positive and provides a good environment for staff to embrace the pending changes.

Marking criteria:

  • Your presentation must include all the information listed above
  • Your presentation must meet all the requirements listed above
  • Your presentation must utilise power point effectively and be easy for an audience to view
