Provide at least three examples of reasons why primates vocalize.

  1. Provide at least three examples of reasons why primates vocalize.  What was the original adaptive purpose of primate vocalizations?

Three examples of reasons why primates vocalizes includes when howler monkeys call (sounding like loud screams and roars) to declare territory. Another example is how the different monkeys make different sounds depending on what going on.  Lastly, monkeys have a certain call for when a snake comes.  The original adaptive purpose of primate vocalizations was basically to determine different scenarios that are taking place.

2.  What is sociobiology? Do you think that it is useful for predicting early human behavior? Why or why not?

Sociobiology is  “…an attempt to justify genetically the sexist, racist, and elitist status quo in human society” (Soukup 2010).  This definition was developed by Martin Soukup who wrote an article named “Culture as Biological Adaptation”.  I think that it is useful for predicting early human behavior because humans have always been influenced by these things (sexist, racist, and elitist status quo).
