Reflection Artifact for Issues and Trends in Professional Nursing I would like to start out by saying that I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and have learned a great deal from it. There are quite a few issues and trends in nursing. In my course curriculum, I learned about nursing as a profession, legal and ethical issues, the nurse as a leader, teacher and health care promoter, evidence-based practice, quality and safety standards, and politics. Some other topics covered include:

Teamwork, communication, change, informatics, holistic, cultural, and spiritual care, global health and violence, advanced nursing roles, continuing education and the future of nursing. Now, that I have studied all these topics, I am surely a more knowledgeable nurse; and, I am surely better for it. Studying nursing as a profession, we reviewed Bridge’s model of transition; there are three phases. The first phase is called the ending phase; this means letting go of past roles. When advancing your career; in essence, I must forget the old way of practicing, and adopt the new evidence-based practices. This is to better serve my clients. Everything changes, this includes nursing. I have done this, and my facility is encouraging me to serve as the supervisor. I learned about social and ethical issues. I learned that you must protect the privacy of the client at all times, and not post pictures, or private information on social media. I also learned, I must protect myself against law suits, by being able to defend my ethical decisions. I must uphold the patient’s DNR wishes; despite the family and friends wishes, if they are different. The nurse must be a great teacher, leader, and healthcare promoter. I learned that patients learn best when there is a combination of auditory, visual, and inter-active learning. There are electronic resources that teach through interactive story telling. Children learn best this way; especially, when the situation relates to their situation exactly. When the nurse sets up the electronic teaching, they can set the information to relate exactly to the patient. There is a distinct difference between a leader and a manager.
