RESEARCH PROJECT C: Part 1

Introduction: 1 page

Discuss the problem you have selected for your research project:

  • What is the issue you are researching? (Obtain information from in-class assignment #2 “Research Topic” regarding the issue you are researching; your research topic.)

Medicaid for low income adults, Do adults on Medicaid have better health than adults without health insurance

  • How many are affected by the problem and who are they? (Obtain information from a reputable website or journal articles.)
  • Theory of what causes the problem (In-class Assignment #4 “Theory”).Health lifestyle theory
  • List possible ethical situations that could occur if you were to research your chosen population

Literature Review: 1 page

Use a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed journal articles; a combination of quantitative and qualitative articles.

Synthesize and analyze the following information from the journal articles:

  • Describe the research topics, the issues that were studied.
  • Describe the samples that were studied, aka the characteristics of the people who were part of the samples. For example: ages, ethnic backgrounds, income levels, socioeconomic status, single parents, married couples, families with children of a certain age, teachers, students, nursing home staff, children with a specific mental health diagnosis…
  • Describe how the researchers chose their samples – sampling techniques that were used.
  • Describe where the research took place (e.g country, state, city, community). Also state the affiliation of the researchers (e.g. university, hospital, social services agency).

Methodology: 1 page

Quantitative Measure

Based on your research topic and what you are trying to find out about your topic, who would you want to be part of your sample?

List at least 5 questions you would want to ask your research sample.  You can use any combination of nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio, or open-ended questions.  You do not have to include each type of question.

Quantitative Research Design

State which quantitative research design you would use if you were conducting a real quantitative research project on your chosen topic.  Choose one of the following designs/methods:

  • Descriptive
  • Correlational
  • Experimental
  • Quasi Experimental

Give a justification for why you would choose your design.  In other words, state why your chosen design would be the best fit for what you are trying to find out about your research topic.  If you are using a correlational, experimental, or quasi experimental design, state your hypothesis.  (Refer to In-class Assignment #4 “Theory” for your hypothesis.)

Qualitative Research Design

State which qualitative research design you would use if you were conducting a real qualitative research project on your chosen topic.  Choose one of the following designs:

  • Phenomenological
  • Ethnography
  • Grounded Theory
  • Case Study
  • Narrative

Give a justification for why you would choose the design; why your chosen design would be the best fit for what you are trying to find out about your research topic.

Results and Discussion: 1-2 pages – Heading #1

Synthesize information from the discussion, conclusion, limitations, and recommendations sections of your chosen journal articles.
