Section 4: Preceptor-Approved Project Focus

The proposed project seeks to focus on developing a tubing system to help in the delay of patient care. A tubing system is currently applied in the emergency department with positive results with regards to delaying patient care. It is anticipated that extending the tubing system to the rest of the hospital will ensure that the advantage of delayed patient care enjoyed by the emergency department are extended to other departments. As a result, the proposed project intends to focus on developing and applying a tubing system in the whole hospital to improve patient outcome.Implementation of a Tubing System in the entire Healthcare Organization Essay

Introduction

Delay in care delivery is among the significant issues faced by various healthcare organizations. A delay in treatment occurs when patients fail to get the necessary treatment, including any form of treatment, medication, physical therapy treatment, or lab test, which they have ordered in the expected time frame. Additionally, a delay is experienced if a patient does not get a timely follow-up or an initial appointment. Delay in care delivery results in complications or death in some cases. Therefore, this paper will discuss how the delay in delivering care can be addressed by introducing a tubing system to all departments in the healthcare organization. The name of this project is “Improved care in the entire organization.” Its goal is to reduce delays in delivering care experienced in all departments in the healthcare organization, excluding the emergency unit. The paper will include a goal statement, project objectives, evidence-based on the reviewed literature, methodology, resources, formative evaluation, summative evaluation, and timeline. Goal Statement

The project targets various groups of patients seeking care services in the medical facility. It aims at extending a tubing system to all the departments in the healthcare organization. Implementing the tubing system in the entire organization will address the delay in delivery of care experienced in other departments, excluding the emergency unit.

Project objectives

This project’s primary goal is to address the issue of delay in the delivery of care in all departments in the healthcare organization to improve patients’ outcomes. This goal will be achieved by developing and applying a tubing system in the whole hospital. A series of steps will be followed to complete the project. The following objectives will be used to guide the nurses and management during the project implementation process.

  1. The nurses will evaluate the delay in delivering care in the medical facility, pointing out the cause, resulting in a 50% decline in total cases of delay in the delivery of care.
  2. The nurses will apply a tubing system project in all healthcare organization departments, resulting in a 70% decline in delay in care delivery.
  3. The organization’s management will create job vacancies for more nurse practitioners, resulting in a 50% decline in total cases of delay in care delivery. Implementation of a Tubing System in the entire Healthcare Organization Essay

A Review of Evidence-Based Literature

The issue of delay in the delivery of care is experienced in various healthcare organizations.According to Schiff et al. (2015), a delay in treatment occurs when patients fail to get the necessary treatment, including any form of treatment, medication, physical therapy treatment, or lab test, which they have ordered in the expected time frame. This issue has been continuously rising in most departments in a healthcare organization, excluding the emergency unit(TheJoint Commission, 2014). Seventy-three sentinel events were analyzed by the Joint Commission (2015). These incidents led to delays in treatment. Consequently, 48 patients lost their lives. Additionally, around 522 sentinel events associated with delays in treatment were reported between 2010 and 2014. The patients lost their lives in 415 of these events. Permanent loss of functionality was reported in 77 of the victims. Furthermore, unexpected additional care was required by 24 patients. In addition, Balogh et al. (2015) reported that life-threatening conditions resulted from 28 percent of 583 diagnostic mistakes. In some cases, the patients became disabled permanently or lost their lives.

According to Tong et al. (2018), the high prevalence of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis is the primary cause of delay in care delivery in healthcare organizations. Additionally, this issue is caused by inadequate assessments of the patients, failure in the communication system, poor planning, and human factors such as inadequate healthcare staff.

Methodology

This project will utilize a mixed methodology. Both quantitative and qualitative elements will be utilized to collect data. Consequently, the author will gather qualitative and quantitative data. Fifty practitioners working in various departments in the healthcare organization will be involved in the study. This methodology will support the achievement of the set objectives. First, it will enable healthcare providers toevaluate the level of delay in delivering care in the medical facility, identifying the primary causes, thus reducing the delay by 50%. Additionally, the methodology will enable the nurses to assess how a tubing system in all healthcare organizations would reduce delays in care delivery by 70%. Finally, this data collection technique will enable the organization’s management to evaluate how new job vacancies for nurse practitioners would decline the delay in the delivery of care by 50%.Implementation of a Tubing System in the entire Healthcare Organization Essay

Resources

Various resources, including human, physical, and technical resources, will be required to complete this project successfully. First, specialists will be required to install the tubing system in all departments in the medical facility. Physical resources, including tubes, will also be required. Finally, the completion of this project will require finances, which will be used to purchase the tubes and pay all the workers involved in the installation process.
