There are five penguins in the book who lead the change movement.

• Fred – An abnormally curious penguin who identifies the problem and brings it to Alice. He is Level-headed with a creative streak but has gone mostly remarkably until the crisis.

• Alice – A go-getter, she is the driving force behind the penguin colony. She is pragmatic and impartial towards all other penguins. Through her the knowledge of the issue is brought the the attention of the elders.

• Louis – He is the head penguin in charge of the penguin elders and, through that, the entire colony. He has experience and wisdom making him an ideal leder.

• NoNo- The main antagonist of the story, he spends his time preaching against the other five and their work to find a solution.

• Buddy – A very charismatic penguin, he spends his time calming the fears of the regular penguins. Although he is not particularly intelligent he is well liked by everyone and is vital to the success of the group.

• The Professor – He is very intelligent but tends to ramble. An eager learner he is always looking for things to study.

1. Please answer both parts. Then answer question 2.

1. Part 1- Which penguin are you most like? Describe the characteristics of that penguin and explain how you exhibit those characteristics. Give examples from specific situations to aid your description (I AM MOST LIKE FRED as a school counselor).

Part 2: Describe a leader you have worked with or worked for that exhibits the characteristics of any of the characters in the book. Fully describe. I would like to describe my assistant principal, Ms. Low. She is most like Alice because she is a go-getter. Please write this out in two paragraphs.

2. In the book, The story of the kindergarten teacher – her resistance then transformation – demonstrates one of the rich lessons of the book. Explain how the leaders change her way of thinking and thus her behavior. Then explain how this strategy can be used in an elementary school.
