Family and its Role in the Community

The family forms the unit of a community, the initial cell at an institutional level and the significant bridge upon which every generation crosses to give birth to the future generations. The family is a fundamental social unit in the community through which new born children are first introduced into the world (Redding et al, 2011). The family also establishes primary channels through which new born children learn the fundamentals of the community, such as values, language, habits, and norms of behavior, social and psychological leniencies. The family, therefore, is the environment of cooperation between a woman and a man forming the domain that supports a child’s upbringing (Redding et al, 2011). Families are built upon holy bonds and mutual contracts of tranquility, kindness and love between two couples. Families form responsive units to the needs of community members providing the freedom and support required for the promotion of community development.Family and its Role in the Community

            In a community context, families play a role in protecting and sustaining the human race. Through family life, safeguarding of lineage and descent is possible. The family also ensures the intactness and freedom of the society from the aspect of immorality based on strong values and commitments to society based principles (Redding et al, 2011). The social structure in the community is intact only upon adhering to the proper building of a family. Without family commitments to the community’s well-being, the community is afflicted with cases of moral degeneration and social decay. Families also ensure the community is secure against cases of diseases since they form the source of chastity, bounty and cleanliness through preserved moral principles (Redding et al, 2011).
