Ethical Legal and Regulatory Issues in Nursing

Ethical Legal and Regulatory Issues in Nursing
Health care policy can be described as the actions that a government state or local individuals take with an aim or intention to raise the standards or bring the public health to a higher level. To advance public health the health care policy organize finance and deliver health care services. Some of the health care services include; health professional training inspecting and insuring that the medicines and the medical devices are safe public programs administering and regulating private health insurance (Bartlett & Lawson 2008).
Health care policies are developed after wisely working on public and health policies and putting them in a required manner. One should understand the impacts of political social and economic effects on health and the publics well being. Health care policy is a cause or factor that influences a health care decision that is the health of the society. Public policy is a policy suggested or put across by the government and later approved by the parliament. Economics social issues research and technology are some of the factors that influence public policy (John 1998). Health policy developed in institutions deal with issues of workplace such as the required number of patients a hospital. It shapes nursing practices setting standards of care or the way of conduct of nurses and promotes healthy communities by introducing health screening processes and improving the quality of air (Harrington 2004).
Development of health care policies
Being the largest group of health providers nurses are in an instrumental position to influence the initiation of Health Care Policies. They start by picking on a certain issue or problem which the public is reacting. The issue should be of negative impacts to their profession and to the health of surrounding people. Then the individual nurses agree to become actively involved in finding the best remedy to the issue (Kovner Knickman & Jonas 2011). In the second stage or phase of health care policy development the individual nurses start a campaign to gather support from the public. They find a way to a solution for the issue.
In the third stage the devoted nurse finds a way to get the policymakers and healthcare stakeholders to get interested. This strategy informs the nurses about the importance of nursing in a public and health policy. It is in this stage where nurses share the idea with the members of the legislature on health matters and this helps them secure higher jobs when they get recruited to advisory boards and to bodies that make policies. In the last stage the nurses are among those setting the agenda and influencing the policy development which is approved by the legislature.
According to my philosophy the best way to develop health care policies is by employing mechanization technology and other modern inventions that are effective. Instead of waiting for issues to arise only competent nurses should be in the healthcare centers. They will foresee and firmly speak out about what is good for the public health. Nursing and healthcare organizations with lobbyists should take over check bills and accounts and keep records. Use of information systems or advanced technology will also boost the performance in hospitals. Big and spacious hospitals with enough qualified doctors nurses and the whole staff should be constructed to avoid congestion and delaying to offer medical services. Good salaries and promotions should be granted to all workers to avoid strikes and ensure that patients are treated well. The government should support the health care organizations and nurses at all costs to ensure that they facilitate the projects to better the public health. It should also help by implementing and enacting health care policy development.
The development of health care policies affect people differently depending on how details of legislation are implemented. A persons age income employment status insurance coverage and health status can all influence how the development of health care policies may affect them with their family. Some of the benefits made available after the policy has been developed are; small businesses are offered tax credits to make health coverage for employees more available ones children are also included in his or her health plan access to health coverage by individuals who are not insured the health plans offer preventing benefits freely hence eliminating unplanned expenses like deductibles and copayments one is allowed to choose his or her own healthcare provider e.t.c.
