6.Describe how the agency does/does not provide services and activities that address the chosen health promotion focus:
They use the 12 steps to achieve sobriety
They also use talk therapy which everyone was sharing their experience and their opinions.
7. Discuss and analyze your experiences attending a meeting/event hosted by the agency:
• Are they achieving their goals? : Yes. If you have a high willingness to achieve sobriety and attend each meeting with a positive attitude, achieve each step, you will achieve the goal.
• What was the response of the clients/families in this gathering?
Positive attitude. People who attend the meeting were very willing to share their experience and opinion and help each other out. Their families are every supportive too.
• Did this include handouts, or other take away information? Yes. They have many handouts with different categories: AA for the elderly, women, teenage, special needs etc. There are many true stories shared from people who recovery from alcoholism.
• Is this a closed group of participants or do different people come and go each meeting? The group that I attend was a open group which is opening to everyone, and allow the group members to bring their families, to get family members involved and get some basic ideas about what are their loved one/child doing here, and how will they achieve their goals here.
This agency also has close meeting which only open to the fixed group members who may not want to share their experience to everyone.
• Was there an identified philosophy used in the event?
Yes. The philosophy is “alcoholics anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.”

My experience: The AA meeting group that I attend was a small group made up 12 people. Most of them are male only one female. The first day that I went to was about the 9th steps. Some of them already got to the 9th steps some of them were not. People who got to the 9th step were sharing their experience and help/encourage others to achieve the 9th step. People who haven’t got to 9th step were talking their own opinions. After each person’s talk, everyone will say “Thank you for your sharing, (member’s name).” to show respect and encouragement. From this experience, I can see the struggle of addiction, how it can take over your life, ruin relationships and broke the whole family. you also need a lot of supportive and courage to get rid of it.

8. The paper has a clearly identified introduction and conclusion. The introduction introduces the health promotion behavior and agency. The conclusion is a summary of the paper and reviews the chosen health promotion focus and the outcome of the agency survey.
