Re: Module 1 Discussion Question 2

The mentoring relationship between mentors and mentees facilitates transfer of knowledge, skills, experience and wisdom gained from “past mistakes” and benefits the mentee in future career or business decisions (Evans-Galea & Galea, 2014, p. 26). Mentors advocate for their mentees, put them in contact to “meet the right people” who can help in their career decisions. In promoting the mentees’ talent and value forward within and outside the organization, the mentors can also become “sponsors” (Evans-Galea & Galea, 2014, p. 29).

From the mentor’s perspective, mentoring develops future leaders by fostering “professional development” and personal growth….organizations such as National Health Institute (NIH) saw increase in productivity and realized return on investment when mentoring is structured and built in the organization’s culture (( Evans-Galea & Galea, 2014, p. 29).

Mentees benefit from the mentoring process as it relates to positive career outcomes, when the mentoring relationship is based on respect, and supportive role modeling. In a study by Allen, Eby, Poteet, Lentz, & Lima, 2004 (as cited in Illies, Reiter-Palmon, 2018, p. 21), mentees reported successful careers, higher compensations and have high job satisfaction than individuals who were not mentored.
