Assignment Overview This assignment requires you to demonstrate your understanding of the interconnections between key components of a nursing curriculum. For this 6–8 page paper, you will create mission, vision, and philosophy statements for a nursing program and its parent institution, develop three program outcomes, map the outcomes to regional accreditor criteria, and write a critically reflective analysis of the process and your work. Assignment Instructions Assume that you are working for a traditional four-year college with no school of nursing but with a four-year traditional nursing program. Choose a professional regional accreditor for the nursing program; you will align the program outcomes you create as part of this assignment to the criteria of your selected accreditor. From that perspective, write a 6–8 page paper that includes the following: On the first 1–2 pages: 1.Mission and vision statements for the institution. Be sure to create these for the institution, not the program, and address diversity and technology. 2.A philosophy (values) statement for the nursing program. 3.Three program outcomes, one for the second year, one for the third year, and one for the fourth year of the program. The outcomes must align with the institution’s mission and vision statements and with the program’s philosophy. (Exclude the first year, which would likely be just general education and pre-nursing content.) 4.Map (align) the program outcomes to the criteria of your selected regional accreditor and to either the corresponding AACN Essentials (2008) or the QSEN (2003) competencies. Present this in table form. If the program outcomes do not all align with the accreditor criteria, explain the rationale. On the subsequent 5–6 pages: 1.Analyze how the major concepts in the mission and vision statements contribute to the currency of a nursing curriculum for the adult learner. 2.Explain your rationale for the philosophy statement, and how it aligns to your mission and vision statements and supports the development of the curriculum. 3.Critically reflect on the statements, program outcomes and accreditation criteria, and provide an analysis addressing the importance of all the alignments between those components. Submission Requirements Your assignment must meet the following requirements: •Length of paper: 6–8 typed, double-spaced pages, not including cover page and references. •APA format: Resources and citations must be formatted according to current APA style and formatting. •Written communication: Written communication must be grammatically correct and free of errors that detract from the overall message. Writing should be consistent with graduate-level scholarship. •Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point. •Format: Document should be submitted in .doc or .docx file format.
