THE SCENARIO
Sarah is a 25-yr old woman with a history of depression and numerous overdoses in the past. Her children have been taken into care after being deemed at risk of harm by Social Services in the category of neglect. Sarah found out that she was pregnant again and arranged to have a termination. On the one month anniversary of the termination of pregnancy, Sarah was found to have taken a serious overdose which included paracetamol tablets and various antidepressant medication taken with alcohol. Sarah has been transferred to a mental health acute inpatient ward as an informal patient from a medical ward following the overdose.

Sarah suffers from diabetes, is overweight and drinks up to 2 bottles of wine daily. She is unemployed and lives on her own and has very limited social contacts, but has weekly visit by her Mum who lives outside her local area.
