Assignment: Disadvantage of Nursing Research

(A)One disadvantage of nursing research is the implementation of evidence based practice (EBP). In order for EBP to be recognized in the clinical setting, it must first be adopted by individual care providers, microsystem and system leaders, policy makers, and as well as federal, state, local, and other recognition actions (Stevens 2013). In order for new practice to be implemented, it must pass all boards of certification which could take some time and disagreement. An EBP program, Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPS) is proven in clinical setting to improve patient outcome and ensure patient safety (AHRQ 2008). Although the benefits of TEAMSTEPS is proven to benefit patient outcomes, it requires change and must be implemented requiring a new systematic rules and regulations along with staff education (Stevens 2013). Therefore, although EBP and nursing research is beneficial to patient outcomes, it requires approval across many boards and change in the clinical setting, which is difficult and time consuming to implement

The healthcare system is evolving so much and very quickly. Nurses are with the patients’ for a long period of time during their care. Based on the nurse’s training and experience, he/she can observe what is going on with the patient. There can be suggestions made for the patient care and he/she is talking with the patient as well from time to time and can gather more information regarding the patient. As stated by an article in Elsevier, in order to have evidence-based practice, we need evidence. And with their knowledge and hands-on experience, nurses can theorize, hypothesize, structure studies, and collect evidence that leads to better care (Blake, 2016). There are many more advantages, than disadvantages. Most people don’t think that nurses to research, but they do. Overall, it helps the patients have a better experience.

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
