Could you briefly share about your background and the role you have today? Assistant Nurse Manager 5 years, Interim
Nurse Manager 1 year in a very large Emergency Department with 300 employees.
Responsibilities: StaffingBalancing
Schedules, Overtime approval, Vacation requests, Payroll, Discipline, coaching,
education, suspensions, meetings, to mention a few
• How would you describe a leader? She feels that while she works with many managers but few of them are leaders
Her assistant nurse manager position she feels her ideas are different from her leadership team
She does not believe you are born a leader but you are molded into one through life experiences and upbringing.
• What are important qualities or characteristics of leaders?
She feels a leader is only as a good as a team that is willing to follow them.
If leaders do not motivate their staff they will have poor results and not meet goals
Frequent poor results and morale then they are not an effective leader.
She feels her style of leadership is pathgoal
theory. Each situation as a different demand, each person has different needs
when dealing with various levels of experience and training.
a good leader will define the goal, provide support and resources needed to attain the goal
good leader will give praise and rewards where needed and encouragement to enhance performance.

Leaders should be trustworthy, accountable, enthusiastic, energetic, authentic, a motivator and know how to clearly
communicate the the purpose or goals

Good leader is a positive role model for everyone , lead by example with great people skills

I learn a lot from the members of administration and what I dont want to be like

There will be more of a partnership with the provider team

Communication is the most challenging problem among the leadership team and employees meeting simple expectations.
