The United States ranks 37th in health care system performance. The poor performance has affected the attempt to improving maternal and newborn health. Interesting enough I was never aware of the increasing mortality rates of maternity and newborns. United States has for a while suffered from its ability to present qualitative health care services, access, and efficiency of care. With its low rankings the United States citizens are suffering from living healthy lives. Obesity, hypertension and diabetes have been a great number in the U.S causing many to suffer. However, today changes are being made. Many leaders and organizations are promoting exercising and healthy eating. Advocates are coming up with more ways to make eating healthy and living healthy easier. Ironically political leaders are promoting the U.S as one of the best countries health care system which is by far not the truth because of its numbers. We are cost effective due to the new implementation of managed care plans. Unfortunately, the health care system of the United States cannot satisfy everyone as a whole. Regardless of improvements it will always go on as a system that cannot fulfill the people.

Understanding quality improvement is more important now than ever before.

The article remarks the necessity that the health care organizations, review its strategy and take a look below the water level, and make systematic structural changes, and abandon the obsolete way of health care delivery system. These days private payers and government agencies had been changed the method of reimbursement for services delivered by a provider, now they start with reimbursement programs that require to meet some specific standards for quality of the services provided, and no longer through the old fee for service reimbursement system. According to the article the Government is pushing new rules in health care quality improvement in order for a health care institution to qualify as provider of Medical and Medical, the institution needs to meet all the rigorous quality improvements included in the participant’s requirements, where the provider reimbursement payments has been adjusted according to its performance and with emphasis placed on value base care. According to the article the government will give incentives to those private or larger health care providers who adopt the quality improvement methods in their health care delivery system, and will be penalize those who are not, or refuse to enroll in those quality improvement programs. It does not matter if is a small rural or large metropolitan health care provider, it is beneficial for both parties; the patient and the health care institution to adopt the quality improvement method, to deliver and outstanding quality of health care service.

What a resounding statement about our health care system, when the speaker discusses the children’s hospital asthma program. By having follow up phone calls and home visits to decrease the environmental factors that can cause a asthma attack, the facility reduced the amount of children admissions that were caused by a asthma attack. This program however reduced the amount of hospital revenue the hospital received, and the program was subsequently stopped. If our health care culture is centered around making profit, then all of our programs that are developed to increase our health will slowly put hospitals out of business. Imagine if a tire manufacturer produced a tire that could last 200,000 miles, this would make this tire the only one that needed to be purchased for the average life of a vehicle. I am all for individuals not needed hospital admissions, and are healthy enough to fight routine infectious diseases such as colds. The Massachusetts health care plan needs to be addressed and utilized across the country, imagine if we were able to have an uninsured rate of 2%. Having more individuals insured helps increase the pool of participants which can lead to overall out of pocket costs.+

This video was very informative, the narrator discussed the Massachusetts model of health care system a how that model could serve as a guideline for a health care reform system. Redesign of the current health care system that could put a particular emphasis on the reduction of cost seemed to be goal the narrator believes we in the United States can achieve the right resources and plans are implemented to support such a program. Innovations and w technology that makes health care delivery more efficient will also make health care more affordable for citizens. Treatments can be carried out in a more rapid manner with devices such as electronic medical records and doctors who visit twice as many patients in one day through the capability of telemedicine. The Massachusetts models can lead the health care industry to comprehend how universal health care can provide benefits such as a sound partnership between doctors and hospitals while still having the common goal of delivering excellent quality care to its patients. These plans will still help health care organization focus on cost reduction as well as the ability to deliver adequate care. The Massachusetts system has a lot of similar features as the recently enacted Affordable Care Act and draws several of the positive parallels that are provided by that systems well.

The beginning of the video discusses that innovation is discovering and implementing new ways to deliver health care services. One initiative that Dr. LaRusso discusses is electronic consults to health care providers nationwide. Consumers can obtain health care services through networking through providers nationwide but can also just keep the resources localized as well to an advanced medical home. He also talks about genetic analysis through genetic profile in an effort to find out health information.. He also goes on to talk about the future of organ transplant. He says that the liver regenerates and with the advancement in technology within the health care industry that things like liver transplant will be even more accessible to those patients that are in need. The future of liver transplants can be as easy as an injection of stem cells and since the liver can regenerate, the cells will regenerate into a new liver and instead of a difficult and complicated surgery, the initiation of a stem cell injection would do the same as the surgery. This is the future of transplants in multiple organ transplant surgeries of the future.

The latter portion of the video speaks of the four pillars of transforming health care. These four pillars provides for innovation. These pillars include value, creation of care coordination, payment reform, and universal access of health care services. These pillars re crucial for the health care industry in an effort to move forward and for success within the health care industry as well as health care transformation.
