2. Specific Problem: In one U.S. hospital, septicemias were found in 30% of the 5,740 intravenous catheter populations with the intravenous therapy team responsible for 5% and the house staff for 25% (source, year). Out of 391 catheters, positive cultures were found in 18 (4.6%) catheters inserted by the house staff as compared to 8 (2%) inserted by the intravenous therapy team (cite source).
3.
