Chronic illnesses have a considerable impact on the quality of life of patients. Patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes need the long term care and extensive treatment to minimize the negative impact of their condition not only on their health but also on the quality of their life. In this regard, caregivers need special training to be able to provide essential care and support for patients with chronic illnesses. Purpose: the current study focuses on the study of the impact of chronic illness, diabetes, on the quality of life of patients and long term care they need. Methods: the study involves literature survey, interviews and questionnaires that involve health care professionals and care givers, who work with patients with diabetes. Results: the current study reveals that the long term care is essential for the delivery of health care services and maintenance of high standards of living of patients with chronic illness like diabetes, whereas the lack of long term care puts the life and health of patients under a threat, whereas the quality of their life declines drastically. Conclusion: Care givers need special training to be able to deliver long term care services for patients with chronic illness (diabetes) which are essential for the protection of their life and health and maintenance of decent conditions of living for patients, regardless of their illness.Chronic Illness & Long Term Care: Diabetes Paper
