Evidence shows that comorbid alcoholism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease arepartially because of the shared common genetic variant. For instance, studies show that KPNA3 might play a role in the genetic predisposition to schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease and substance dependence such as alcoholism. Evidence also shows that family members of people with schizophrenia carry a 10% risk of developing schizophrenia in comparison to the 1% of the general population. Similarly, an identical twin of an individual with schizophrenia carries a 40-50% risk of developing schizophrenia. Wang et al (2014)further show that individuals with anapoE4 gene from a single parent carry a 50% probability of developing Alzheimer’s disease and 90% risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease if they got the apoE4 gene from the two parents (Wang et al, 2014). For obesity, evidence shows that genetics contribute to about 40-70 percent of obesity where there are numerous genes that predispose people to gain weight(Albuquerque et al, 2017). An example of such a gene is fat mass and obesity-associated gene (FTO). FTO plays a role in governing energy balances as well as controlling feeding behavior (Albuquerque et al, 2017).

Obesity has a big impact ontoday’s society. For example, people with obesity are susceptible to physical and mental health conditions. Evidence shows that obesity elevates an individual’s risk to cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, and some forms of cancers (Pigeyre et al, 2016). Similarly, obesity has been associated with aspects such as low self-esteem and thus mental health problems.
